Description: The approximate territories of dynasties in China. Drawn by Ian Kiu. Derived from China_map.png by Nat. qing Dynasty 1892' Hong Kong Island in 1842 and Kowloon in 1860 were ceded to British Empire rule. Tang Dynasty 700 A.D. Western territories corresponds to the Protectorate General to Pacify the West. Not shown are the Uyghurs, and Khitans, who were also active in Northern China; Tufan Kingdom in the Tibetan Plateau; Nanchao Kingdom in modern day Yunnan and Sichuan. Warring States 350 B.C. The state of Wei(魏) (in magenta red) should not be confused with the smaller state of Wei(衛) (in pink); whose names share the same pronounciation in Standard Mandarin and therefore have identical romanizations. Not shown are the Hung Nou to the north, remnants of the state of Yut in the south, and the clans of Ba and Shu in the southwest.
