Description: The Archer King, National Museum of Sudan, Khartoum, Sudan, North-East Africa (cropped) Found at Tabo, on the island of Argo, in a hiding place in the temple. Originally this bronze statue was entirely covered with gold leaf. It represents an unknown Meroitic king (no cartouche was preserved). He wears the traditional crown of the kings of Kush - a cap with two cobras on the forehead - and a necklace with rams' heads on each end. Probably 3rd century BCE, a masterpiece of the period.
