Description: The Northumberland, (historically known as The Northumberland Apartments) located at 2039 New Hampshire Avenue, N.W., in the U Street Corridor of Washington, D.C. Built in 1910, the Classical Revival-style co-op building was constructed by Harry Wardman, a prominent real estate developer, and designed by architect Albert Beers. The Northumberland was listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) in 1980. It is designated as a contributing property to the Greater U Street Historic District, listed on the NRHP in 1998; in addition, the building is designated as a D.C. Historic Landmark, listed on the District of Columbia Inventory of Historic Sites in 1978.
