Description: Tower Grove in the Missouri Botanical Garden (1849) in St. Louis. Henry Shaw moved to St. Louis from London in 1819. He sold cutlery and dry goods to travelers. She became an instant success and accumulated significant weath. In 1843, he became a U. S. Citizen. Shaw commissioned George I. Barnett to design a home and townhouse at 7th and Locust Streets in 1849. The design was heavily influenced by three trips to Europe that Shaw had taken in the previous decade. After another European trip in 1851, Shaw designed a garden surrounding his house. The Missouri Botanical Garden was officially founded in 1859.
