Description: Yokosuka, Japan -- Forty Sailors from USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63) and Commander, Task Force Seventy (CTF-70) were advanced to the rank of Chief Petty Officer in a ceremony held in the ship’s hangar bay. Promotion to the rank of Chief Petty Officer not only earns these high-achievers the right to wear khaki uniforms and anchors on their collars, but tasks them with a new leadership role and the expectation of being a technical expert in their rating. Chiefs are expected to lead by example and be role models for junior Sailors who fall under them in the chain of command. Kitty Hawk is the Navy’s only permanently forward-deployed aircraft carrier operating out of Yokosuka, Japan. U.S. Navy photo by Photographer’s Mate 3rd Class LaTunya Howard. (RELEASED)
