Description: Uranophane - alpha Locality: Ambrosia Lake area, Grants District, McKinley County, New Mexico, USA (Locality at mindat.org) Size: cabinet, 11.2 x 9.5 x 8.1 cm Uranophane This remarkable specimen iis the richest, most colorful large example of this classic material I have yet seen. I am told they were found in the 1950s, primarily. This comes out of a small midwestern museum collection, where it has been sheltered all these years, and the pockets of crystals are in incredible condition. I have never seen the mineral in such thick, velvety layers of long crystals before. I believe it to be quite significant , thus, both for the locality AND for the species
