Description: The Garrick Bed About 1775 This was part of a suite of furniture supplied by Thomas Chippendale for the Garricks' best bedroom in their villa. The bed was reduced from a double to a single in the 1860s. A valance from the original hangings is shown nearby. Japanned (painted) beech and pine; the hangings are modern. Made in the London workshops of Thomas Chippendale (born in Otley, West Yorkshire, 1718, died in London, 1779). Given by H.E.
