Description: The hotel at 36 The Square in Bellows Falls, Vermont was originally built as a railroad hotel, although the site was previously occupied by taverns, coach houses and inns, including the Stage House Hotel, the Towns Hotel and the Hotel Windham. The current Georgian Revival building was built in 1932, after a fire burned down the previous 1896 building. From the mid-1970s to mid-1980s it was Andrews Inn, a gay bar and hotel, until public pressure brought on by the AIDS crisis caused it to close down. It is now the Windham Hotel, and under complete interior reconstruction to turn it into functional hotel rooms and apartments. The hotel's lobby and its small ballroom are occasionally used as an event space. The building is part of the Bellows Falls Downtown Historic District. (Sources: [1], [2], [3], [4])
