Description: The derelict toll island in the, originally busy, double towpathed, Birmingham New Main Line Canal near Winson Green Junction, just outside the City of Birmingham boundary, England. A photograph in (Birmingham's Canals, Ray Shill, 1999, 2002, ISBN 0-7509-2077-7) shows an octagonal toll building with a plank across one channel for access by staff and also the artificial embankment (from where this photograph was taken) whose sole purpose was to carry the feeder channel from Rotton Park Reservoir to the Engine Arm at the higher Wolverhampton Level. The wide iron roving bridge (made at Horseley Ironworks) allows a towing horse to cross the Main Line and pass under the smaller roving bridge and then enter the Soho Branch (part of James Brindley's Old Main Line canal).
