Description: Orphans stand in front of the octagonal Soldiers' Orphans Home, formerly Harvey Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin, Wisconsin Historical Society. Note: The octagon house was originally built for Governor Leonard J. Farwell and designed by August Kutzbock and Samuel H. Donnel, architects of the third Wisconsin State Capitol. Orphanage was organized for the children of soldiers killed in the American Civil War due to the effort of Cordelia Harvey, the widow of Gov. Louis Harvey.
