Description: Wrens Train For New Job- Training For Ship Mechanics of the Women's Royal Naval Service, England, UK, 1943 Women of the WRNS stand on planks balanced on ladders to paint recognition letters and numbers onto the side of a landing craft as part of their training to become Ship Mechanics (LC), probably at the Slough Government Training Centre. The letters have been drawn to scale in chalk and are being filled in with a paintbrush. Once drafted, this work will be carried out using stencils, to save time. An instructor (in white coat), can be seen in the background, inspecting their work.
