Description: This is a scanned image of post-World War II photo taken of Wykagyl, New York. Judging from the shapes of the autos and the "missing" "new' shopping areas which came in during the early 1950s, this was probably taken between 1945-1952. The image focuses on the central business district which had developed in response to the opening of the NYWB railroad line in 1912. The station is at the lower right. The railroad stopped running at the end of 1937, and its tracks and catenary system were removed in 1942. In this photo, the right-of-way leading north-northwest from the station (in the lower right corner of the picture) is partly shrouded by overhanging trees which have begun to cover the abandoned rail corridor. North Avenue in foreground, Quaker Ridge Road in middle.
