James Napoleon Shaw, born on February 27, 1989, is a former professional American football player. He played as a wide receiver, which is a player who catches passes from the quarterback. James played college football at Jacksonville State University before joining several professional teams. Some of the teams he played for include the Carolina Panthers, Pittsburgh Power, Pittsburgh Steelers, San Jose Sabercats, and Portland Steel.

Early Life and High School Sports
James Shaw was a talented athlete in high school. He played both football and basketball at St. Clair County High School in Odenville, Alabama. During his senior year in football, he was a strong player on both offense and defense. He ran for over 750 yards and caught passes for 250 yards, scoring nine touchdowns. On defense, he made 105 tackles.
In 2006, James was recognized as an All-County player for his skills as a running back and a linebacker. He was also named the St. Clair County Player of the Year. As a junior, he helped his team, the Fighting Saints, achieve a great record of nine wins and three losses. James also showed his basketball skills by being named to the All-Tournament team during the County Championships.
College Football Journey
After high school, James Shaw continued his football career at Jacksonville State University. He played for the Jacksonville State Gamecocks from 2008 to 2011. Before playing in games, he spent the 2007 season as a redshirted player. This means he practiced with the team but did not play in official games, allowing him to develop his skills and gain experience.
Professional Football Career
After college, James Shaw hoped to join the National Football League (NFL). He was considered the 264th best wide receiver in the 2012 NFL draft class.
Playing for NFL Teams
James Shaw signed with the Carolina Panthers of the NFL on February 14, 2013. He was released by the Panthers later that year on August 31, 2013. However, he was quickly re-signed to their practice squad the very next day, on September 1, 2013. A practice squad allows players to train with the team and be ready if needed for a game. He was released by the Panthers again on September 18, 2013.
Later, James signed with another NFL team, the Pittsburgh Steelers, on August 5, 2014. He was with them for a short time before being released on August 18, 2014.
Playing in the Arena Football League
Besides the NFL, James Shaw also played in the Arena Football League (AFL). This league plays football indoors on a smaller field.
He joined the Pittsburgh Power of the AFL on March 7, 2014. He was placed on a special list by the Power on August 5, 2014, before the team stopped operating in November 2014.
On December 23, 2014, James was assigned to the San Jose Sabercats, another AFL team.
His last known team in the AFL was the Portland Steel, which he joined on May 26, 2016.
