James Napoleon Shaw (born February 27, 1989) is a former American football player. He played as a wide receiver, which is a player who catches passes. James Shaw played college football at Jacksonville State University. He was also a part of several professional teams, including the Carolina Panthers, Pittsburgh Power, Pittsburgh Steelers, San Jose Sabercats, and Portland Steel.

Early Life and High School Sports
James Shaw grew up in Odenville, Alabama. When he was in high school at St. Clair County High, he was a star athlete. He played both football and basketball.
In football, he was amazing on both offense and defense. As a senior, he ran for over 750 yards and caught passes for 250 yards. He scored nine touchdowns and made 105 tackles. He was recognized as an All-County player in 2006. He was also named the St. Clair County Player of the Year. In his junior year, he helped his team, the Fighting Saints, win nine games.
He was also a talented basketball player. He was named to the All-Tournament team during the County Championships.
College Football Career
After high school, James Shaw went on to play college football. He joined the Jacksonville State Gamecocks team. He played for them from 2008 to 2011. In 2007, he was "redshirted," which means he practiced with the team but did not play in games that year. This allowed him to gain experience and keep an extra year of playing eligibility.
Professional Football Journey
After college, James Shaw hoped to play in the National Football League (NFL). He was seen as a promising wide receiver for the 2012 NFL draft.
Playing for the Carolina Panthers
James Shaw signed with the Carolina Panthers in the NFL on February 14, 2013. He worked hard with the team. However, he was released by the Panthers later that year, on August 31, 2013. The very next day, he was re-signed to their practice squad. A practice squad is a group of players who train with the team but are not on the main roster. He was released again by the Panthers on September 18, 2013.
Time with the Pittsburgh Power
In 2014, Shaw joined the Pittsburgh Power. This team played in the Arena Football League (AFL). He was with the Power until August 5, 2014. The Pittsburgh Power team stopped playing in November 2014.
Brief Stint with the Pittsburgh Steelers
On August 5, 2014, James Shaw signed with another NFL team, the Pittsburgh Steelers. This was a short time, as he was released by the Steelers on August 18, 2014.
Joining the San Jose Sabercats
Later in 2014, on December 23, James Shaw was assigned to the San Jose Sabercats. This was another team in the Arena Football League.
Playing for the Portland Steel
On May 26, 2016, Shaw moved to another AFL team, the Portland Steel. He played for them during the 2016 season.
