Kauko Johannes Juhantalo (born 28 April 1942 – died 26 April 2020) was an important Finnish politician. He was a member of the Centre Party. Juhantalo served as a Member of Parliament for the Satakunta area. He also held the position of Minister of Trade and Industry.
Early Life and Education
Kauko Juhantalo was born and grew up in Kankaanpää, a town in the Satakunta region of Finland. He studied law at the University of Turku. In 1972, he earned his degree as a Master of Laws.
Political Career
After finishing his law studies, Juhantalo worked as a lawyer. He first became a Member of Parliament in 1979. A Member of Parliament helps make laws for the country.
In 1991, Juhantalo was chosen to be the Minister of Trade and Industry. This role involves helping businesses and industries in Finland. He served in the government led by Prime Minister Esko Aho.
In 1992, Juhantalo stepped down from his role as minister. This happened after a situation involving a bank loan and a company called Tampella. He later took a break from his work in Parliament.
Juhantalo returned to Parliament in 1995. He continued to serve the people of Satakunta. After a short break in 1999, he was re-elected in 2003. He was also re-elected in 2015. During his time in Parliament, he was part of the Finance Committee. This committee looks at how the government spends money. He also served as the chairman of the city council in his hometown of Kankaanpää.
Later Life and Passing
Kauko Juhantalo passed away on 26 April 2020. He was 77 years old, just two days before his 78th birthday. He died from cancer.
