Minter started her career in 1983 and has appeared in many films and television shows. Some of her other well-known movies include Mask (1985), Summer School (1987), and House Party (1990). She has also made guest appearances on TV series like Martin and ER.

Early Life and Career Beginnings

Kelly Jo Minter was born in Trenton, New Jersey. She was the youngest of nine children. Her mother's job required a lot of travel, which led to Minter becoming independent at a young age.

Before becoming an actress, Minter worked behind the scenes on movie sets as a grip. A grip is a person who helps build and maintain the equipment that supports cameras. This experience helped her get her first acting roles in movies and television.

Her first role was in a 1983 episode of the TV show Fame. In 1985, she made her movie debut in the film Mask, where she acted alongside famous stars like Cher and Sam Elliott.

Rise to Fame in the 1980s

The late 1980s were a busy time for Minter. In 1987, she played Denise Green, a student with dyslexia, in the comedy movie Summer School. Her performance earned her a nomination for an NAACP Image Award.

That same year, she appeared as Maria in the popular horror-comedy film The Lost Boys. The movie, directed by Joel Schumacher, became a cult film, meaning it has a dedicated group of fans. She also had a role in the movie The Principal.
