L. Jacques Ménard (January 29, 1946 – February 4, 2020) was a very important Canadian leader. He was known for his work in business and for helping his community. Mr. Ménard was the President Emeritus of BMO Financial Group in Quebec. This means he was a former president who was still highly respected. He also led BMO Nesbitt Burns, which is a big financial company. From 2011 to 2014, he was the Chancellor of Concordia University, a major university in Quebec.

This award is for people who have done great things for Quebec.
Important Roles and Contributions
Mr. Ménard held many important leadership positions. He was the president of BMO Financial Group in Quebec. He also chaired BMO Nesbitt Burns. This meant he was in charge of these big financial companies. Beyond banking, he was the chairman of Hydro-Québec. This is the company that provides electricity to all of Quebec. He also led the Investment Dealers Association of Canada. This group helps make sure financial markets work well.
He also helped lead a special group called a Task Force. This group looked at how to make the Quebec Health Care and Social Services System better. He always worked to improve things for people.
Helping His Community
L. Jacques Ménard was always looking for ways to help. In 2009 and 2010, he was the Vice-Chair of a special group. This group worked on making Canadians better at managing their money. It was called the Federal Task Force on Financial Literacy.
In 2013, he started a big study with The Boston Consulting Group. This study was called "Building a New Momentum in Montreal." It looked at how to make the city of Montreal even better. After this study, he launched a program called "I see mtl." This program aimed to bring new life and energy to Montreal.
Awards and Recognition
Mr. Ménard received many awards for his hard work. In 1999, Concordia University gave him the Loyola Medal. This is a special award from the university. In 2006, he received an honorary doctorate. This means the university recognized his achievements with a special degree. L. Jacques Ménard passed away in Montreal in 2020 after being ill for some time.
