The State Register of Heritage Places is like a special list of important historical spots in Western Australia. It's looked after by the Heritage Council of Western Australia. As of 2023, there are 282 places in the Shire of Harvey that are considered heritage-listed. Out of these, nine are so important that they are on the State Register of Heritage Places. Alverstoke: A Pioneer Farm

Alverstoke is a very old farm located at 484 Clifton Road in Brunswick Junction. It was built way back in 1840, making it one of the first farms established when Europeans first settled in Western Australia. This farm was originally owned by Marshall Waller Clifton, an important figure in the early days of the colony. It has many old farm buildings that show us what farming life was like almost 200 years ago.

Church of St Nicholas: The Little Church

The Church of St Nicholas, sometimes called the Congregational Church or The Little Church, is found at Lot 324 Paris Road in Australind. Built in 1841, this single-storey timber building is in an old style called Old Colonial Georgian. It's interesting because it was actually built as a house first, before becoming a church.

Harvey Agricultural College: A Place of Many Stories

The former Harvey Agricultural College at 25 James Stirling Place in Harvey has a fascinating history. Built in 1940, it was designed in a style called Inter-War Spanish Mission. This site was not just a college; it also served as the 3rd Australian Corps Training School and even as No. 11 Internment Camp during World War II. It was the first purpose-built internment camp in Western Australia. An internment camp is a place where people, often from other countries, were held during wartime.

Italian Prisoner of War Shrine

Within the Harvey Agricultural College area, at 11011 South Western Highway, you'll find the Italian Prisoner of War Shrine. This shrine is also known as the Internment Camp Memorial Shrine. It's a rare example of a roadside shrine built in Australia. It was created by Italian prisoners of war who were held at the camp during World War II. It's a special place that remembers their time there.

Replica of the Hut Homestead

Also part of the Harvey Agricultural College Precinct, at 25 James Stirling Place, is the Replica of the Hut Homestead. This building, built in 1994, is a copy of the original Stirling Cottage. It's sometimes called The Hut or Captain Stirling's Hunting Lodge. This replica is famous because it's linked to the well-known author May Gibbs, who wrote the Gumnut Babies books.

Henton Cottage: An Old Australind Home

Henton Cottage, located at 301 Old Coast Road in Australind, was built in 1842. It's another single-storey timber-framed building in the Old Colonial Georgian style. This cottage has also been known as Allnutt Cottage and even the Prince of Wales Hotel at different times in its history.

St Joseph's Church & Cottage: A Lost Landmark

St Joseph's Church & Cottage was located on Johnston Road in Yarloop. Built in 1906, it was a church and cottage made of timber and corrugated iron. It was also known as the Community Centre and St John the Baptist Church. Sadly, this historic site was destroyed in the big Waroona fire in January 2016.

Upton House: A Grand Old Home

Upton House, found at 4 Upton Place in Australind, was built in 1844. This two-storey house was quite fancy for its time, showing a level of skill that wasn't common back then. It became the home of Marshall Clifton from 1847, who bought it two years earlier. It's a great example of early sophisticated housing in the area.

Yarloop Timber Mill Workshops: An Industrial Giant

The Yarloop Timber Mill Workshops were located on Railway Parade in Yarloop. Built in 1895, these workshops were once the largest timber industry workshops in all of Western Australia. They were a huge part of the timber industry. Like St Joseph's Church, these important workshops were also destroyed in the January 2016 Waroona fire.
