The State Register of Heritage Places is a special list kept by the Heritage Council of Western Australia. It helps protect important historical places. The State Register of Heritage Places lists three very special spots in the Shire of Nannup. These places tell us about the history of Western Australia.
Donnelly River Mill
The Donnelly River Mill is located in Donnelly River, Western Australia. It was built in 1949. This old mill is very special because it's the only one left that used steam power to cut down trees from Western Australia's hardwood forests. It's mostly still in its original condition, showing us how timber was processed long ago.
Donnelly River Mill & Townsite Precinct
Right next to the mill, the Donnelly River Mill & Townsite Precinct was built in 1951. This area includes the houses where the mill workers used to live. Today, these old workers' cottages are used as places for tourists to stay. It gives visitors a chance to experience what life might have been like for the people who worked at the mill.
Jalbarragup Bridge (ruin)
The Jalbarragup Bridge, now a ruin, is found on Jalbarragup Road, crossing the Blackwood River. It was built in 1900. This bridge is important because it's the only wooden bridge from around the year 1900 over the Blackwood River that still looks like it did when it was first built. It's also one of only a few such old wooden bridges left in all of Western Australia. Even though it's a ruin, it shows us how bridges were built more than a hundred years ago.
