Maria Ligorio (born 25 June 1970 San Michele Salentino) is an Italian Paralympic athlete. She won a silver medal at the 2000 Summer Paralympic Games, in the 200 meters, and bronze medals at the 1996 Summer Paralympic Games, in the 400 meters and 200 meters.

Life

Maria Ligorio was born in 1970, and at the age of one year she lost her sight. She turned out to be a good sprinter, she started competing in 1989, following a transfer to Rome for work. Over a decade, she participated in three editions of the Summer Paralympic Games, in three world Championships and four European Championships, in the specialties of the 100, 200, 400 meters, and in the 4 × 100 meters relay.

After taking part in the 2000 Summer Paralympics, for personal reasons, she left international competition and devoted herself to sport climbing. However, she participated in the 2012 Italian Championships, on the occasion of admission to the London Games, and obtained the best result for the T11 category (absolute blindness) in the 100 and 200 meters run.
