Midland Park Mall is a large shopping center in Midland, Texas, United States. It first opened its doors in 1980. This mall is home to several big stores called "anchor stores." These include two Dillard's stores, JCPenney, Bealls, and Ross Dress for Less. One of the Dillard's stores used to be a Sears department store.
Mall History
Midland Park Mall officially opened in 1980. When it first opened, a store called Sakowitz was one of its original shops. However, Sakowitz closed down just two years later in 1982.
Changes Over Time
Over the years, many stores have come and gone at the mall. For example, the clothing store Gap closed in 2009. But other new stores opened around that time, like Vanity (which later closed in 2017) and a new place to eat in the food court. More popular stores like Charlotte Russe, Zumiez, and Ulta also joined the mall.
Recent Changes
On January 4, 2018, Sears announced that its store at Midland Park Mall would be closing. This was part of a plan to close many Sears stores across the country. The Sears store at the mall closed on April 8, 2018. This was a big change because it was the last original anchor store from when the mall first opened.
After Sears closed, the mall's owner, Simon Property Group, made plans to use that space for new shops. In 2019, Dillard's made some changes to its stores in the mall. Its women's departments moved into the old Sears building. The men's departments moved into the space where the women's departments used to be. This spot was originally home to Sakowitz.
On October 25, 2019, it was announced that Dick's Sporting Goods would open a new store. It was planned to open in the summer of 2020 in the space that used to be Sakowitz and then Dillard's Men's department.
