The Mount Bulgar viper (Montivipera bulgardaghica), also known as the Bulgardagh viper, is a special type of viper snake. It lives only in the high mountains of southern Turkey. Like all vipers, it is venomous, meaning it can inject venom. Scientists do not currently recognize any different types or subspecies of this viper.
About the Mount Bulgar Viper
This snake can grow to be quite long. Its total length, including its body and tail, can reach about 78 centimeters (about 30 inches). That's almost as long as a baseball bat!
Where the Mount Bulgar Viper Lives
The Mount Bulgar viper is found in a specific area. It lives in the Bulgar Dagh (Bolkar Dagi) mountains. This region is located in the Nigde Province of south-central Anatolia, Turkey. It is a very rare snake to see in the wild.
Protecting the Mount Bulgar Viper
The Mount Bulgar viper is listed as a species of "Least Concern" by the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. This means that, for now, it is not considered to be in danger of disappearing.
It is also a protected animal under the Berne Convention. This international agreement helps protect wild plants and animals and their natural homes.
