Early Life and Education

Nina Skorupska's father came from Poland. When she was young, she was inspired by the TV show Star Trek. This made her want to study space and stars at university. However, she found that her math skills weren't quite strong enough for that path.

Instead, she studied Chemistry at Newcastle University. She earned her first degree in 1983 and then a higher degree (a PhD) in 1987.

In 1991, Nina married Martin Tedd. They worked together to make their dream come true: turning an old building by the sea into an eco-friendly home. In 2013, they started a company called Elysian Ark. Their goal was to find new ways for businesses and people to work together on energy, health, and being kind to the planet. Nina is also a vegetarian.

Career in Energy and Beyond

Nina Skorupska started her career in the energy industry. She made history by becoming the first female manager of a power station in the UK, at Didcot B.

She then worked in other countries within the RWE energy group. She helped improve how things were done in Germany. Later, she became the Chief Technology Officer in the Netherlands for a company called Essent.

In 2013, Nina became the chief executive of the Renewable Energy Association (REA). This group works to support and grow clean energy technologies. From 2013 to 2016, she was also a visiting professor at London Metropolitan University.

Nina was a non-executive director and deputy chair of the WISE Campaign from 2014 to 2020. This campaign helps encourage girls and women to get involved in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) careers.

In 2016, Nina joined the board of Transport for London. This means she helps make important decisions about how people travel around London. In 2021, she also joined the Supervisory Board of Royal BAM Group, a large construction company.

In 2020, she became a founding member of the UK government's Jet Zero Council. This group brings together experts from industry and government. Their big goal is to make sure planes can fly across the Atlantic Ocean without creating any pollution within one generation.

Awards and Recognition

Nina Skorupska has received several important recognitions for her work.

In 2016, the Women's Engineering Society named her one of the "Top 50 women in engineering." This award celebrates leading female engineers in the UK.

She was also given a special honor called the CBE in 2016. This award was for her great work in promoting renewable energy and for helping to create more equality in the energy industry.
