Norene Lynn Gilletz (born Rykiss; May 29, 1940 – February 23, 2020) was a famous Canadian cookbook writer. She was also a food expert who helped people learn about cooking and healthy eating. Norene wrote many popular cookbooks, especially about Jewish food.

Her Early Life
Norene Gilletz was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Her parents were Belle and Max Rykiss. She grew up in Winnipeg and went to Kelvin High School. Norene even won a scholarship to study German at the University of Manitoba. But she decided to go to a secretarial college instead.
In 1960, Gilletz moved to Montreal, Quebec. There, she started her family. Later, she moved to Toronto.
Her Writing Career
Norene Gilletz began her writing career in 1968. Her first cookbook was called Second Helpings, Please!. Norene helped edit this book. It was published by the Mount Sinai Chapter of B'nai Brith Women of Canada. This cookbook became very popular. By 2020, it had been printed 17 times. It sold over 200,000 copies.
A few years later, a new kitchen tool called the food processor became popular. Norene Gilletz then wrote a book about it. This book was called The Pleasures of Your Processor (1980). Later, its name was changed to The Food Processor Bible.
Norene wrote many other cookbooks too. Some of her other popular books include MicroWays, MealLeaniYumm!, and Norene’s Healthy Kitchen. MealLeaniYumm! was later renamed Healthy Helpings.
Norene Gilletz passed away in Montreal on February 23, 2020. She was 79 years old.
