What are Barrios and Sectors?
In Puerto Rico, a barrio is like a neighborhood or a district. It's a way to divide up a municipality (which is like a county or a town).
Barrios are then split into even smaller parts called sectores (pronounced: sek-TOR-es). These are like smaller local areas or communities within a barrio. There are different kinds of sectores, like urbanización (a housing development) or barriada (a smaller neighborhood).
Río Hondo has many different sectores. Some of them include Sector El Tigre, Sector La Guitarra, and Urbanización Sabana del Palmar.

A Look at History
Río Hondo, like the rest of Puerto Rico, has an interesting history. After the Spanish–American War in 1898, Spain gave Puerto Rico to the United States. This was part of a deal called the Treaty of Paris of 1898.
After this, Puerto Rico became a territory of the United States. In 1899, the U.S. government took a count of all the people in Puerto Rico. They found that 1,161 people lived in Río Hondo barrio at that time.
