What Does the Raubold House Look Like?

The Raubold House is found just west of the main part of Harrisville. It sits high up on the north side of Chesham Road. This spot is about 0.2 miles (0.32 km) west of where Chesham Road meets Nelson Road.

Design and Features of the House

This house has two stories and is made of wood. Its outside walls are covered with overlapping wooden boards called clapboards. The roof has a pointed shape, known as a gable roof. It also has small, short returns at the ends. A covered porch wraps around the front and side of the house. This porch is held up by decorative posts.

The History of the Raubold House

The Raubold House was built in the year 1901. It was a simple home, typical for workers in the town. Many of these homes were built for immigrants. These new residents often worked in the local textile mills. Some also worked at the large summer homes in the area.

Who Lived in the Raubold House?

The first person to own this house was Robert Raubold. He was an immigrant from Germany. Robert worked at the Cheshire Mills, which was a factory. He also worked at a big estate called Aldworth Manor. Later, his nephew, Alfred Dietze, owned the house. Alfred worked as a gardener at another large estate in Dublin, New Hampshire. Even later, the person who managed Harrisville's train station lived here.
