Ruben Tovmasyan (born February 15, 1937, died March 30, 2019) was an important leader of the Armenian Communist Party. He served as the General Secretary of the party for many years.

Ruben Tovmasyan's Life and Career

Ruben Tovmasyan was born in Yerevan, the capital city of Armenia. He grew up and later studied at the Armenian State University of Economics. He finished his studies there in 1977.

After graduating, Ruben Tovmasyan began his career in politics. From 1977 to 1989, he held a significant role as the 'first secretary' in different regional committees of the Communist Party of Armenia. He also worked in the main office of the Communist Party during this time.

Later, from 1989 to 1990, he led a special department. This department was responsible for helping people who had to leave their homes and needed a safe place to stay.

From 1991 to 1993, Tovmasyan was part of the Transport and Communication Division. This division was a part of the Council of Ministers of Armenia, which helps run the country.

Leadership in the Armenian Communist Party

Ruben Tovmasyan continued to rise in the ranks of the Armenian Communist Party. From 2000 to 2003, he served as the Secretary of the party's Central Committee. This is a key leadership position within the party.

In 2003, he became the First Secretary of the party. This made him the top leader of the Armenian Communist Party. He held this important role until 2013, when he decided to step down for personal reasons. Ruben Tovmasyan passed away on March 30, 2019.
