San José is a special kind of area in Panama called a corregimiento. It is found in the Cañazas District, which is part of the Veraguas Province. Think of it like a small local division within a larger district.
In 2010, about 1,936 people lived in San José. A few years earlier, in 2000, its population was 1,726 people.
How San José Was Created
San José became an official corregimiento on March 7, 1997. This happened because of a special rule called Law 10. Later, two more laws, Law 5 (from January 19, 1998) and Law 69 (from October 28, 1998), helped to complete the process and define San José's boundaries and rules.
