History of Troy, Tennessee
Troy was established in 1825. It was originally the main town and government center for Obion County. A famous frontiersman named Davy Crockett was even there when the town was first planned!
Railroads and Growth in Troy
In 1874, a railroad line was built from Union City to Trimble. This line went around Troy to the south. Later, in 1888, the Troy and Tiptonville Railroad began operating. This shorter line connected Troy to the main Illinois Central Railroad at a place called Moffat.
Why the County Seat Moved
Troy remained the county seat until 1890. After a big legal disagreement, the county seat was moved to Union City.
