The Tuxpan River is an important river in Mexico. It flows into the Gulf of Mexico. This happens near the city and port of Tuxpan. Tuxpan is in the state of Veracruz.

Where the River Starts

The Tuxpan River gets its water from two main rivers. These are the Vinazco River and the Pantepec River. The Vinazco River begins in Hidalgo. The Pantepec River starts in Puebla. Both of these rivers flow into Veracruz. They join together before reaching the city of Álamo. This is where they form the Tuxpan River.

The River's Journey

After the two rivers join, the Tuxpan River flows on. It passes by the city of Tuxpan. Near its end, it forms a lagoon. This lagoon is called Tampamachoco. The river then empties into the Gulf of Mexico.
