The Upper Amazon treefrog (scientific name: Dendropsophus bifurcus) is a small frog that belongs to the Hylidae family, also known as the tree frog family. This amazing frog lives in the upper parts of the Amazon Basin. You can find it in several South American countries, including Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru.

Where Does the Upper Amazon Treefrog Live?

The Upper Amazon treefrog is a very common frog in its home region. It likes to live in bushes found in open forests and clearings. A clearing is an open space in a forest where trees have been removed. These frogs are often found in places where there is a mix of trees and open areas.

How Does the Upper Amazon Treefrog Reproduce?

Like many frogs, the Upper Amazon treefrog needs water to have its babies. It breeds in both permanent and temporary shallow ponds. Temporary ponds are pools of water that dry up after a while, often after rain.

When it's time to lay eggs, the female frog places them out of the water. She usually lays them on leaves that hang over the water. Once the eggs hatch, the tiny tadpoles drop into the water below. They then grow and develop in the pond until they are ready to become young frogs.
