Yael Nemirovsky (Hebrew: יעל נמירובסקי) is a brilliant Israeli scientist. She was born on July 21, 1944. She is known for her amazing work in both chemistry and electrical engineering.
Professor Nemirovsky is especially famous for her research on tiny, tiny machines. These are called microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) and microoptoelectromechanical systems (MOEMS). She used to be a professor of electrical engineering at the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology, which is a very important university in Israel.

Her Journey in Science
Yael Nemirovsky was born in Haifa, which was part of Mandatory Palestine at the time. She loved science and decided to study chemistry at the Technion. She earned her first degree in 1966 and then completed her Ph.D. in 1971. A Ph.D. is the highest university degree you can get!
Working with Technology
After finishing her studies, Yael Nemirovsky became a research scientist at Rafael Advanced Defense Systems. This company works on advanced technology. While there, she also started teaching at the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology. This is where she began to focus on electrical engineering.
She worked on exciting topics like "surface acoustic wave devices." These are special devices that use sound waves. She also studied "optoelectronics," which is about using both light and electricity in technology.
Becoming a Professor
After working at Rafael for several years, she returned to the Technion in 1980. She became a senior lecturer in electrical engineering. She worked her way up, becoming an associate professor in 1985 and a full professor in 2011.
In 2013, she retired from the Technion as a "professor emerita." This means she retired but still keeps her professor title because of her important contributions. From 2012 to 2015, she also led the electrical engineering department at Kinneret College.
Inventing New Things
Yael Nemirovsky also helped start a company called BlueBird Optical MEMS Inc. She was its president and later its chief scientist. Since 2014, she has been the chief scientist at TODOS Technologies Ltd. This company creates special infrared sensors using a technology called CMOS. These sensors can "see" heat, which is useful for many things!
Awards and Recognition
Because of her important work, Yael Nemirovsky has received many honors. In 1999, she was named a Fellow of the IEEE. This is a very special award given to engineers who have made big contributions to technology. She was recognized for her work on devices and technology made from special materials called "compound semiconductors."
She is also a Fellow of the Institution of Electrical Engineers. These awards show how much her work has helped advance the world of science and engineering!
