Potaro-Siparuni is a special region in Guyana, a country in South America. It is also known as Region 8. The main town, or capital, of this region is Mahdia.

This area is part of a territory called Esequiban Guyana. Both Guyana and Venezuela claim this land. Venezuela believes it is part of its Bolívar state.

About Potaro-Siparuni

Potaro-Siparuni is located in the western part of Guyana. It covers a large area of about 20,051 square kilometers (which is about 7,742 square miles). In 2012, about 10,190 people lived here.

Where is it?

This region shares its borders with several other areas. To the north, it borders the Cuyuni-Mazaruni region. To the east, you'll find the Upper Demerara-Berbice and East Berbice-Corentyne regions. The Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo region is to its south. To the west, Potaro-Siparuni borders the country of Brazil.

The name Potaro-Siparuni comes from two important rivers in the region: the Potaro River and the Siparuni River. These rivers are vital for the local environment and the people who live there.
