Donavan Reed Tate (born September 27, 1990) is an American athlete. He played both baseball and American football. He was a talented outfielder in Minor League Baseball. Later, he became a quarterback for the University of Arizona Wildcats college football team.
Sports Career
Donavan Tate showed great talent in sports from a young age. He played both baseball and football. His journey included playing professionally and then returning to college.
High School Sports
Donavan went to Cartersville High School in Cartersville, Georgia. He was a star in both baseball and football. He was even named an All-American in both sports. This means he was one of the best high school players in the country. In his final year, he had a rib injury while playing football. Donavan planned to play both baseball and college football for the North Carolina Tar Heels.
Playing Baseball
The San Diego Padres baseball team chose Donavan very early in the 2009 Major League Baseball draft. He was the third player picked overall! Donavan decided to sign with the Padres. He received a large amount of money, called a signing bonus, to play for them. This meant he would not go to North Carolina for college sports right away.
His professional baseball career faced some challenges. He had several injuries that limited his playing time. He played for six seasons in Minor League Baseball. He never reached the highest levels of professional baseball. He played for teams like the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes. The Padres released him after the 2015 season. He then signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers for a short time in 2016.
Playing Football
In 2017, after his time in minor league baseball, Donavan went back to college. He joined the Arizona Wildcats football team. He played as a quarterback for them. On December 24, 2017, Donavan left the Arizona team. He wanted to be closer to his family in Georgia.
Personal Life
Donavan Tate is the son of Lars Tate, who was a professional football player. Donavan is married and has four children.
