In his last year of high school, he broke a rib while playing football. Donavan had planned to play both baseball and college football for the North Carolina Tar Heels.

Baseball Career Highlights

In 2009, the San Diego Padres picked Donavan Tate very early in the 2009 Major League Baseball draft. He was the third player chosen overall. Donavan decided to sign with the Padres instead of going to North Carolina. He received a large amount of money, called a signing bonus, to join the team.

His time playing professional baseball was affected by injuries. He had several surgeries and injuries, including a broken jaw. Donavan played six seasons in Minor League Baseball.
