Donavan Reed Tate was born on September 27, 1990. He is an American former college football quarterback for the University of Arizona Wildcats. Before playing college football, he was a Minor League Baseball outfielder. The San Diego Padres chose him as the third overall pick in the 2009 Major League Baseball draft.

High School Sports Star
Donavan Tate went to Cartersville High School in Cartersville, Georgia. He was very good at both baseball and American football. He was even named a High School All-American in both sports. This means he was one of the best high school players in the whole country.
In his last year of high school, he broke a rib while playing football. Donavan had planned to play both baseball and college football for the North Carolina Tar Heels.
Baseball Career Highlights
In 2009, the San Diego Padres picked Donavan Tate very early in the 2009 Major League Baseball draft. He was the third player chosen overall. Donavan decided to sign with the Padres instead of going to North Carolina. He received a large amount of money, called a signing bonus, to join the team.
His time playing professional baseball was affected by injuries. He had several surgeries and injuries, including a broken jaw. Donavan played six seasons in Minor League Baseball. He never played in the highest minor league levels. The Padres released him after the 2015 season. He then played for the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2016, but was released later that year.
College Football Comeback
After his baseball career ended, Donavan Tate went back to college in 2017. He joined the Arizona Wildcats football team as a quarterback. He played for the Wildcats for a short time. On December 24, 2017, Donavan left the University of Arizona. He wanted to be closer to his family in Georgia.
