Tate Buckley Donovan (born September 25, 1963) is an American actor, comedian, and television director. Many people know him as the voice of the hero in the 1997 Disney animated movie Hercules. He also played the character in the Hercules TV show and some Kingdom Hearts video games.
Donovan is also famous for playing Jimmy Cooper in the popular TV show The O.C. and Tom Shayes in the series Damages. He has acted in many movies, including Love Potion No. 9 with Sandra Bullock, Good Night, and Good Luck, and the award-winning film Argo.
Besides acting, Donovan directs TV shows. He has also won a Primetime Emmy Award for producing a series of short documentary films called 30 for 30 Shorts.

Early Life and Education
Tate Donovan was born in Tenafly, New Jersey. He is the youngest of six children. His father, John Timothy Donovan, was a surgeon (a doctor who performs operations), and his mother was Eileen Frances McAllister.
He went to Dwight-Englewood School and later Tenafly High School. After high school, he studied at the University of Southern California. Donovan started acting on television when he was a teenager.
Career in Acting and Directing
Work in Movies
Donovan began his movie career in the 1980s. One of his first big roles was playing Kevin Donaldson in the 1986 movie SpaceCamp. He later played 1st Lieutenant Luke Sinclair in the World War II film Memphis Belle (1990). In 1992, he starred as the main character, Paul Matthews, in the romantic comedy Love Potion No. 9.
In 1997, he became the voice of the main character in Disney's Hercules. He also appeared in the movie Nancy Drew (2007) with Emma Roberts. In 2012, he played Bob Anders in Argo, a movie that won the Academy Award for Best Picture. More recently, he played music manager Doug Weston in the 2019 movie Rocketman.
Roles on Television
Donovan has appeared in many popular TV shows. He played Joshua, a character who dated Rachel Green for several episodes in the fourth season of Friends. At the time, he and actress Jennifer Aniston had recently ended their real-life relationship. He also played Jimmy Cooper on the teen drama The O.C. from 2003 to 2006.
From 2007 to 2010, he was a main character on the legal drama Damages. He has also had roles in shows like 24: Live Another Day as the White House Chief of Staff and in MacGyver as the main character's father.
Directing for Television
In addition to acting, Donovan is a talented director. He started directing in 2005 with an episode of The O.C.. Since then, he has directed episodes for many other shows.
Some of the popular series he has directed for include Gossip Girl and Glee. He directed the special Valentine's Day episode of Glee in 2011. He has also directed episodes of Damages.
Stage and Other Work
Donovan has also performed in plays. He has acted on Broadway in New York City in plays like Picnic and Amy's View, where he starred alongside the famous actress Judi Dench.
Outside of acting, Donovan has a passion for music. He plays the bodhrán (an Irish drum) and the fiddle in a traditional Irish band called the McGuffins. The band has even released an album. He also does voice-over work for commercials.
Personal Life
From 1990 to 1994, Tate Donovan was in a relationship with actress Sandra Bullock. He later dated actress Jennifer Aniston from 1995 to 1998.
In 2005, he married writer Corinne Kingsbury. They divorced in 2008. He married Corry Scheuerman in 2015.
Donovan has also shown interest in politics. He supported Barack Obama during the presidential elections in 2008 and 2012.
