Main Games in the Series
Kingdom Hearts
Kingdom Hearts was the very first game in the series. It came out for the PlayStation 2 in Japan on March 28, 2002. In this game, a boy named Sora lives on an island with his friends, Riku and Kairi. Their island is attacked by dark creatures called Heartless, who steal people's hearts. Sora gets a special weapon called a Keyblade. He teams up with Donald Duck and Goofy from Disney!
Together, they travel to many different Disney worlds, like Alice in Wonderland, The Little Mermaid, and The Nightmare Before Christmas. Sora learns that Riku is being controlled by a bad guy named Ansem, who created the Heartless. Ansem tries to capture seven special princesses to open a secret door. Sora manages to seal this door, stopping Ansem for a while.
Chain of Memories
Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories is the second game. It was released for the Game Boy Advance in Japan on November 11, 2004. In this game, Sora arrives at a mysterious place called Castle Oblivion. As he goes through the castle, his old memories start to disappear and new ones replace them. He even starts to forget Kairi!
Sora meets a group of enemies called Organization XIII. They are trying to mess with his memories. A girl named Naminé helps Sora by putting him to sleep so he can get all his memories back. Meanwhile, Riku is also on his own journey, trying to control the darkness inside him.
Kingdom Hearts II
Kingdom Hearts II is the third game in the series, released for PlayStation 2 in Japan on December 22, 2005. The story starts with a boy named Roxas and his friends in Twilight Town. Roxas soon finds out that he is connected to Sora. He realizes he needs to join with Sora so Sora can wake up.
Sora, Donald, and Goofy wake up and continue their adventure to find Mickey and Riku. They meet more members of Organization XIII. They learn that these enemies are "Nobodies." When a Heartless steals someone's heart, that person can become a Heartless. But if their heart is very strong, a Nobody is also created from what's left behind. Nobodies don't have feelings, but they want to get their hearts back.
The leader of Organization XIII, Xemnas, wants to create a new Kingdom Hearts by defeating many Heartless. This would release all the hearts they've stolen, which the Nobodies could then take. It's revealed that Roxas is Sora's Nobody, and Naminé is Kairi's Nobody. After a big battle, Sora and his friends defeat Xemnas and return home to Destiny Islands.
coded
Kingdom Hearts coded was the fourth game, first released in episodes for mobile phones in Japan on November 18, 2008. In this game, Mickey, Donald, Goofy, and Jiminy Cricket find a strange message in Jiminy's journal. They create a digital version of the journal's world to figure out who wrote the message.
A newer version of this game, called Kingdom Hearts Re:coded, was made for the Nintendo DS. It added more story scenes and a secret ending.
