Haley Joel Osment (born April 10, 1988) is an American actor who started his career as a child. He is famous for his roles in major Hollywood movies and for his voice acting in video games and cartoons.

Osment first became well-known for playing the son of the main character in the movie Forrest Gump (1994). This role won him a Young Artist Award. His biggest role came in the spooky movie The Sixth Sense (1999). For playing a boy who could see ghosts, he was nominated for an Academy Award.

He continued to star in popular films like Pay It Forward (2000) and Steven Spielberg's science fiction movie A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001). He also voiced characters in animated movies like The Jungle Book 2 (2003). Many people also know him as the voice of Sora and Vanitas in the popular Kingdom Hearts video game series.

As an adult, Osment has appeared in many movies and TV shows. He acted in films like Tusk (2014) and Entourage (2015). He has also voiced characters in animated series like Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous and the movie Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie (2022).

Early Life and Education

Haley Joel Osment was born in Los Angeles, California. His father, Michael Eugene Osment, was a theater actor, and his mother, Theresa, was a teacher. He has a younger sister, Emily Osment, who is also a successful actress.

Osment's parents gave him what they called a "good old-fashioned Southern upbringing." His father made sure to speak to him like a grown-up, avoiding baby talk. As a kid, Osment was active and enjoyed playing sports like basketball, football, and golf.

He went to Flintridge Preparatory School in California. After high school, he moved to New York City and graduated from New York University's famous Tisch School of the Arts in 2011.

Acting Career

Getting Started as a Young Actor

Osment's career began by chance when he was just four years old. While at a store, he was noticed by a talent scout. At his audition, he was asked to describe the biggest thing he had ever seen. He talked about an IMAX movie screen, and his description helped him land a part in a Pizza Hut commercial.

This commercial opened the door to more acting jobs. He soon got his first role in a TV series called Thunder Alley. In 1994, he played his first movie role as the son of Tom Hanks's character in Forrest Gump. During the 1990s, he also had roles in TV shows like The Jeff Foxworthy Show and Murphy Brown.

Breakthrough with 'The Sixth Sense'

In 1999, Osment became a huge star after acting in the movie The Sixth Sense with Bruce Willis. He played Cole Sear, a young boy with the ability to communicate with ghosts. His performance was so good that he was nominated for an Academy Award. At the time, he was one of the youngest actors ever to be nominated for an Oscar.

His famous line from the movie, "I see dead people," became one of the most well-known quotes in movie history. It is still quoted and parodied today.

Success in the 2000s

After The Sixth Sense, Osment starred in several other big movies. In 2000, he played the main character in Pay It Forward. The next year, he worked with director Steven Spielberg in the science fiction film A.I. Artificial Intelligence. His role as a robot boy who wants to be real earned him more praise from critics.

During this time, he also did a lot of voice acting. He was the voice of characters in Disney's The Hunchback of Notre Dame II and The Jungle Book 2. In 2002, he began voicing Sora, the main hero of the Kingdom Hearts video game series, a role he has continued for many years.

Later Roles and Voice Work

As he got older, Osment continued to act in a variety of projects. He made his debut on Broadway in a 2008 play called American Buffalo.

He has appeared in many TV shows, including Silicon Valley, The Boys, and The Kominsky Method. He has also continued his voice acting career. He voiced a character in the Netflix series Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous and played Casey Jones in the animated movie Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie (2022).

Personal Life

Outside of acting, Osment enjoys several hobbies. He is a skilled golfer and started playing when he was seven. He has even played in celebrity golf tournaments. He also plays the guitar and piano.
