Glee (pronounced "glee") is an American TV show that combines music, comedy, and drama. It was shown on the Fox channel in the United States from May 19, 2009, to March 20, 2015. The story is about a group of students in a glee club called "New Directions" at William McKinley High School. This school is a made-up place in Ohio, USA.
The show follows the club members as they prepare for show choir competitions. They also deal with many everyday challenges that teens face. These include things like race, family issues, friendships, and learning to work together as a team.
The Story of Glee
Glee was created by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, and Ian Brennan. Ian Brennan first thought of the idea as a movie. The very first episode, called the pilot, was shown on May 19, 2009. The first season then aired regularly from September 9, 2009, to June 8, 2010.
New seasons of Glee usually started in September and ended in May each year. The sixth and final season was shown from January to March 2015.
Awards and Recognition
During its first season, Glee was very popular with TV critics. It received good reviews, scoring 77 out of 100 based on 18 reviews on Metacritic. The show won many awards.
The first season was nominated for 19 Emmy Awards and four Golden Globe Awards. It won the 2010 Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy. Some actors also won Emmys, including Jane Lynch and guest star Neil Patrick Harris. Ryan Murphy also won an Emmy for directing the pilot episode.
In 2011, Glee won the Golden Globe for Best Television Series again. Jane Lynch and Chris Colfer won Golden Globes for Best Supporting Actress and Best Supporting Actor. Gwyneth Paltrow also won an Emmy for her guest role. The show was so popular that Fox chose to air a special episode right after the Super Bowl XLV in 2011.
The Show's Conclusion
Glee ended after 121 episodes. It featured over 729 musical performances. Following the passing of one of its main actors, Cory Monteith, the show concluded after its sixth season. The final episode aired on March 20, 2015.
