Óscar Alzaga (born 29 May 1942) is a Spanish expert in law, a university professor, and a politician. He is known for starting the People's Democratic Party. Until 1987, he was very active in Spanish politics.

Life Story of Óscar Alzaga
Early Life and Education
Óscar Alzaga was born in Madrid, Spain, on 29 May 1942. He studied law at the University of Madrid. He earned his first degree in 1964. Later, he got his PhD degree from the Autonomous University of Madrid in 1972. A PhD is a very high university degree.
Starting an Academic Career
In 1969, Alzaga began teaching at the Autonomous University of Madrid. During the time of Francoist Spain, he was part of a group called Tácito. This group was allowed to speak out against the government in some ways. They wanted to see changes in Spain.
His Role in Politics
In 1977, Óscar Alzaga joined a political group called the Union of the Democratic Centre. This group was an alliance of different parties. He was part of the Christian Democratic Party within this alliance.
Alzaga felt that the Union of the Democratic Centre was not doing enough. He thought they needed a different approach to politics. So, in July 1982, he decided to leave the Christian Democratic Party. He then started his own political group.
Founding the People's Democratic Party
Óscar Alzaga founded the People's Democratic Party in July 1982. He led this new party as its chairman. He worked hard to guide the party for several years.
In May 1987, he decided to step down from his role. Javier Rupérez then took over as the new chairman of the People's Democratic Party. Alzaga's work helped shape Spain's move towards democracy.
