History of Örebro HK

The club started in 1990 with the name HC Örebro 90. At that time, another team called Örebro IK already existed. The main idea behind HC Örebro 90 was to give more ice hockey players in Örebro a chance to play, especially those who didn't make it onto the Örebro IK team.
In 1999, Örebro IK faced financial problems and went out of business. Many of their players then joined HC Örebro 90. In 2005, the club changed its name to Örebro HK, which is what it's called today.
Journey to the Top League
Örebro HK worked hard to climb up the ranks of Swedish ice hockey. In the 2000–01 season, they moved up to the second-tier league, Allsvenskan. However, they were sent back down to Division 1 in the 2003–04 season. They spent five seasons in Division 1.
The team made a big comeback in the 2008–09 season. They played in the Kvalserien (a special qualification series) and won, earning their spot back in HockeyAllsvenskan.
In the 2010–11 season, Örebro HK played very well, finishing third in their league. This allowed them to play in the 2011 Kvalserien to try and qualify for the top league, Elitserien (now called SHL). They didn't make it that year, finishing fifth.
But two years later, in the 2013 Kvalserien, their dream came true! Örebro HK was promoted to the SHL. Their first SHL season was the 2013–14 season. This was a huge moment for the club and for the city of Örebro, as it was the first time an Örebro team had played in the top league since the 1978–79 season.
Recent Seasons
Since joining the SHL, Örebro HK has continued to compete at the highest level. They often finish in the middle of the league standings. For example, in the 2020–21 season, they finished 6th and made it to the semifinals of the Swedish Championship playoffs. In the 2021–22 season, they reached the quarterfinals.
