Ōiso (大磯町, Ōiso-machi) is a small town in Japan. It is located in Kanagawa Prefecture, which is on the island of Honshū. Ōiso is known for its beautiful coastline along Sagami Bay.
A Look Back in Time
During the Edo period (1603-1868), Ōiso was an important stop. It was the 8th of 53 special rest stops along the Tōkaidō road. This famous road connected the old capital city of Kyoto with Edo (which is now Tokyo). These stops were called shuku-eki or "waystations." Travelers could rest, eat, and stay overnight there.
Where is Ōiso?
Ōiso is located right on the coast. It sits along the edge of Sagami Bay. This bay is part of the Pacific Ocean. Being by the sea means Ōiso has nice beaches and ocean views.
