The Manitoba general election of November 17, 1981 was an important event in the Canadian province of Manitoba. This election was held to choose who would represent the people in the Legislative Assembly, which is like Manitoba's parliament.
In this election, the New Democratic Party (NDP) won the most seats. They secured 34 out of the 57 available seats. This meant they formed the new government. The Progressive Conservative Party won the remaining 23 seats.
For the first time ever, the Manitoba Liberal Party did not win any seats. Other parties also ran candidates, including the Progressive Party (which was new at the time), the Communist Party, and the Western Canada Concept Party. None of these parties won any seats either.
After the election, Howard Pawley from the New Democratic Party became the new Premier of Manitoba. The Premier is the leader of the provincial government.
