23rd Street station (IND Sixth Avenue Line) facts for kids
The 23rd Street subway station is an important stop on the New York City Subway system. It's located in Manhattan, right where 23rd Street meets Sixth Avenue (also known as Avenue of the Americas). This station is part of the IND Sixth Avenue Line. It's a "local" station, which means trains stop here at all times. In fact, this station and the 14th Street Station are the only two local stops on the entire Sixth Avenue Line.
The 23rd Street station is special because it shares an entrance with the 23rd Street station for the PATH train. The PATH train is another train system that connects New York City with New Jersey. The PATH station is located right between the two platforms of this subway station.
Trains That Stop Here
The 23rd Street station is mainly served by two subway lines. The F train stops here all the time, every day of the week. The M train also stops here, but only during weekdays. Sometimes, during busy rush hours, a special <F> train also uses this station.
Even though it's mostly for F and M trains, other trains like the E train might sometimes pass through this station. They use the Sixth Avenue tracks to go to places like the World Trade Center or Jamaica Center.
Next Stops on the Line
When you leave the 23rd Street station, the next stops depend on which direction you are going. If you are heading north, the next station is 34th Street Herald Square. If you are heading south, the next station is 14th Street.
