U-verse was a special brand from AT&T. It offered three main services to homes: internet, TV, and phone. It started on June 26, 2006. U-verse was available in many states across the United States.

By 2011, U-verse services could reach about 30 million homes. At that time, 6.5 million people used U-verse for their high-speed internet.

What is AT&T U-verse?

AT&T U-verse was a set of services that used a special kind of technology. It delivered internet, TV, and phone calls all through one connection. This was different from older ways of getting these services.

U-verse Internet Service

U-verse offered broadband internet. This means it provided a very fast connection to the internet. It allowed people to browse websites, stream videos, and play online games quickly. Broadband internet is much faster than older dial-up connections.

U-verse TV Service

The TV part of U-verse was called IPTV. This stands for Internet Protocol Television. It meant that TV channels were sent over the internet, not through traditional cable or satellite. This allowed for features like:

  • Many channels to choose from.
  • On-demand movies and shows.
  • Digital video recorders (DVRs) to record programs.
  • Interactive guides to help you find shows.

U-verse Phone Service

U-verse also provided phone service using VoIP. VoIP means your phone calls travel over the internet, just like data. This was a modern way to make phone calls. It often included features like caller ID and voicemail.

How U-verse Grew

When U-verse first launched, AT&T wanted to offer new ways for people to get their home services. It was a way to compete with other companies that offered cable TV and internet. Over time, U-verse became very popular. It reached millions of homes across 22 US states.

What Happened to U-verse?

Over the years, AT&T changed its services. The U-verse brand was eventually split into different parts. Now, you might see these services under new names:

  • AT&T Phone for home phone service.
  • AT&T Internet (which includes AT&T Fiber) for internet connections.
  • U-verse TV for the television service.

So, while the U-verse name for the whole package is not used much anymore, its services still exist. They have just been updated and given new names by AT&T.
