Biography

Ana María Vázquez Hoys was born in Madrid, Spain, on October 8, 1945. She was the second child in her family. Her father worked in the military. In 1971, she married Carlos Martín Martínez. They had two children together. They later divorced in 1993.

Vázquez studied geography and history at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. She earned her first degree in June 1969. She then continued her studies and received her PhD in ancient history in 1974.

In 1980, she started teaching ancient history at UNED in Madrid. By 1984, she became a full professor of ancient history. She worked in the Department of Prehistory and Ancient History.

Since the 1980s, Professor Vázquez has written many academic books and articles. These are all about ancient history. She has also taken part in international conferences. She often appears on radio and television programs. Since 2009, she has been a regular guest on Spanish radio stations like 'Dial' and 'Europa_FM'. She often appears with presenter Javier Cárdenas. In 2010, she published her first historic novel. This book, called El Sol Negro (The Black Sun), is set in Ancient Egypt.
