Badger was officially created in 2010. It was formed from smaller towns and areas around the city of Fairbanks. The total area of Badger is about 66.7 square miles. Most of this area is land, with a small part being water.

Fort Wainwright's Role

A big part of Badger's community is linked to Fort Wainwright. This is an important Army and National Guard base located within Badger's boundaries. Many soldiers and their families live at Fort Wainwright. The military estimates that about 7,000 soldiers and 6,500 family members live there. Also, about 2,400 civilians and contractors work at the base. Another 7,800 retired military members and veterans live nearby.

Many of the people counted in Badger's population are connected to Fort Wainwright. While soldiers and their families often move, the total number of people at the base stays fairly steady.
