Ben Hart, born on July 9, 1974, is a famous former Australian rules football player. He played for the Adelaide Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). After his playing career, he became an assistant coach for several teams, including the Collingwood Football Club. Ben is known for being a strong defender and a two-time AFL Premiership winner.
Early Career
Ben Hart started playing football at a young age. He made his first big appearance in the SANFL for North Adelaide in 1990. He was only 16 years old then!
In 1992, Ben joined the Adelaide Crows straight from his college team. He quickly became an important player as a defender. In his first year, he played all 22 games. At just 18, he was chosen for the All-Australian team, which is a huge honor. He was selected again in 1993, showing how talented he was.
Amazing Records
Ben Hart played for the Adelaide Crows for many years. In 2005, he broke the club record for the most games played, passing Nigel Smart. He played 279 games for the Crows.
In 2006, Ben reached another big milestone. He became the first Adelaide Crows player to play 300 games in the AFL! This is a very special club for players who have had long and successful careers.
Sadly, Ben got a broken arm during a game in 2006. He came back to play but got injured again later that season. These injuries ended his amazing playing career.
Life After Playing
At the end of the 2006 season, the Adelaide Crows decided not to keep Ben Hart on their team. This was due to his age and recent injuries.
In 2007, Ben went back to play for North Adelaide in the SANFL. He helped them reach the Grand Final that year. After the season, he officially announced his retirement from playing football.
Ben didn't leave football entirely! From 2008 to 2011, he worked as an assistant coach for the Adelaide Crows. Then, he moved to the Collingwood Magpies and was an assistant coach there from 2012 to 2016. In 2018, he returned to the Adelaide Crows as an assistant coach again, staying until 2020. Ben Hart has had a long and successful career both as a player and a coach in Australian rules football.
