The Betty Brinn Children's Museum is a special place in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. It's a non-profit museum designed just for kids! Here, children can learn and explore through fun, hands-on activities.

What Can You Do at the Museum?

This museum is all about learning by doing! It's made for kids, especially those aged 1 to 10. You won't just look at things here; you'll get to touch, play, and create.

Some of the cool areas include:

  • A pretend grocery store in the "Home Town" exhibit.
  • A fun space to move and play in "Kohl's Healthy Kids: It's Your Move!"
  • A workshop where you can design and build things in the "Be a Maker (BAM) space."

How the Museum Started

The museum was created by three amazing women: Therese Binder, Susie Gruenberg, and Julie Sattler-Rosene. They worked hard for six years to raise money from the community. Their dream came true when the museum officially opened its doors on April 4, 1995. The ribbon-cutting ceremony was held a few days earlier, on March 30, 1995.

Who Was Betty Brinn?

The museum is named after a very special person, Betty Brinn. She was the founder of a company called Managed Health Services. Betty had a tough childhood and grew up in many different foster homes. Because of her own experiences, she wanted to help others. When she became successful, she focused on making sure that women and children from low-income families could get medical care and health insurance. Her kindness and dedication inspired the museum's name.

Museum's Location Plans

For a while, the museum thought about moving to a new spot. In September 2020, they announced plans to move into a space within the new Milwaukee Public Museum campus. This new location would have been near N. Sixth Street, between W. McKinley Avenue and W. Vliet Street. It was also just one block north of the Fiserv Forum. However, these plans were later canceled in early 2022. This decision was made because of concerns about the budget. So, the museum stayed in its original location.
