The Story of Big Daddy's BBQ Sauce
The idea for Big Daddy's BBQ Sauce started with a special homemade recipe. This recipe belonged to the company's founder, Daniel Lloyd Sr. In 1998, the company officially started selling its sauces. They sold Mr. Lloyd's sauce and another one from a family friend. Soon, Big Daddy's BBQ Sauce was sold in many big supermarkets across the country.
Big Daddy's and Auto Racing
Big Daddy's BBQ Sauce also got involved in exciting auto racing. They sponsored different racing events and teams. These included the Indy Racing League and the NHRA. They also sponsored teams in NASCAR, like Donlavey Racing and Larry Hedrick Motorsports. Another team they sponsored was Bill Catania in the American Speed Association.
Sponsorship Challenges
Sometimes, Big Daddy's BBQ Sauce had trouble keeping its promises for sponsorships. For example, in 1999, they were supposed to sponsor the No. 90 Donlavey Racing Ford car. But during the big Speedweeks race, the team had not received the money they were promised. So, Big Daddy's logos were removed from the car.
Big Daddy's tried again in 2000. This time, they sponsored the No. 41 Larry Hedrick Motorsports Chevy. However, they again had problems with their payments. Because of this, Larry Hedrick's team could not find new sponsors. Sadly, they had to close their racing team down.
South Boston Speedway
Big Daddy's BBQ Sauce was also the main sponsor for South Boston Speedway. This was a race track in 2002 and 2003. During those years, the track was even called Big Daddy's South Boston Speedway.
