The Largebract Spiderling (scientific name: Boerhavia wrightii) is a cool flowering plant. It belongs to the four o'clock family. You can find this plant growing in the hot deserts of the southwestern United States and northern Mexico. It often grows among other desert shrubs.
What Does the Largebract Spiderling Look Like?
This plant is an annual herb. This means it grows from a seed, flowers, produces new seeds, and then dies all within one year. It has a thin, spidery stem that stands upright. This stem can grow up to about 70 centimeters (about 2.3 feet) tall.
Leaves and Stems
The leaves of the Largebract Spiderling are shaped like a lance or an oblong oval. Their edges are a bit wavy, and their ends are somewhat pointed. Most of the plant's leaves grow close to the bottom, near the base of the stem.
Flowers and Bracts
The plant's flowers grow in clusters called inflorescences. These flower clusters appear at the ends of the plant's thin stem branches. Each cluster has a few pale pink flowers. Each flower is tiny, only a few millimeters long. Next to these small flowers, you'll see reddish or pinkish bracts. Bracts are like special leaves that grow near flowers.
